That's because stupid dickheads change the lane even if you are only 30 meters behind. They drive 100, and if they see a truck 1 km before them, they change the lane, and wait 2 minutes before they pass it....Not everybody should have a driver's license that's for sure.

I was in Germany last week. I am quite experienced with high speeds on Autobahn but it gets crazy when people pass other treffic in mid lane at 200+ when the left lane is empty. I have had some fun but always slowed down if it looked the slightest messy.

The Golf driver could have easily avoided crash by slight move to the left, there was space enough, he didn't even get onto the left white line.

The more interesting point, how insurance companies of both drivers rated this situation. As far, as I‘m informed, the driver travelling with more than 130km/h „Recommended max speed on Autobahn“ has to be prepared, to react of others eventual errors. By simply flash his light, in a very aggressive way, instead of breaking immediately, when seeing the others bad driving. The Golf drivers behaving, also could be interpreted as aggressive driving, provoking a collision, instead of avoiding it at all.

The moral of the story, dont drive fast when there's loads of traffic on the road ;)

Whatever he could have done, like going more to the left? - I heard once, in germany, from a lawyer in a casual chat, that should you be exceeding the "recommended" speed limit you are automatically partly liable also for any bumps that happen to you, too. Somehow I don't think they've changed that rule, yet.

Breaks mirror. Continues to emergency brake down to 30kph in the outside lane and then loiters around when the middle lane is clear to move over. Any sensible person would immediately be aware that the immediate risk here is being rear ended at high speed and the sensible approach is to continue driving forwards whilst moving over.
